Congratulations to the Biggers' Bunch! They earned 50 compliments! I am so PROUD of them! As a reward, the class voted on Bring Your Own Device celebration! During Comet Club, we had tons of fun using our devices.
Also, congratulations to Noah for being our MVP this week! We enjoyed learning more about our special classmate when he shared his banner with us on Friday!
A big thank you to all our wonderful parents who provided the delicious feast on Friday! It was definitely yummy!
Seeing the amazing turn out on Tuesday’s Create Peace Night made me smile. The children had a fantastic art experience and enjoyed their time with you and their friends.
The next great school-wide event was launched this week - the library Saddle Up and Read program and Bluebonnet Book program. Last year, my class had 100% participation! Let’s not break the trend! Details are online and in your child's homework folder.
Parent Conferences start next week: You will be receiving a reminder email from Sign-Up Genius this week with your scheduled day and time. Please email if you need to reschedule your appointment. I look forward to discussing with you your child's goals for 3rd grade!
Finally, planners are your child’s best friend! Be sure to review his/her planner and important dates at the end of this newsletter. Thank you!
Enjoying your children,
Joni Biggers

From the Counselor
We are having a canned food drive for Central Texas Food Bank to provide additional support to those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Central Texas. Please bring your nonperishable item to the collection boxes by the front staircase. Thank you for supporting those in need in our area.
Parent Career Connection
Each month Canyon Creek Elementary focuses on a different character trait for our Character Counts program. October's character trait is SELF-DISCIPLINED! This year we have a Character Counts bulletin board by the cafeteria with a designated spot for Parent Career Connections. Even though our students are young, it’s never too early for career exploration! Please help our students learn about different career options as well as how important good character is by completing and sending in the Character Counts: Parent Career Connection handout to Mrs. Hougham, our counselor, who will display them on the bulletin board. Forms may be found in the office. If you’d like, please attach a picture of you at your job showing our Character Counts trait of the month too! Thank you so much for supporting our efforts!

Reflections
Canyon Creek Elementary PTA is excited to participate in the Reflections program for the 2017-18 school year! The theme this year is “Within Reach.” The deadline for entries is Tuesday, October 31st. Questions? Please email the Reflections Chair, Lori Thompson at: [email protected].
Please visit the Texas PTA website for more information, rules, and the required submission forms. Please visit PTA Reflections as well.
Volunteers: If you plan to be a volunteer, go on a field trip, help in the classroom, or work with students, you MUST complete the volunteer application AND receive approval. If you completed an application last year, you will still need to complete a new one for the 2017-2018 school year.
Click here for more information and the application link.
Homework:
Planners are completed daily. Please check and initial your child’s planner nightly. These students still require support from home.
Students are required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night and record a quick response on their reading logs. Logs are DUE every Wednesday. Book Bucks are earned with every 100 minutes read. Students can “purchase” books from our “Book Buck Libraries” with 10 book bucks. Nightly reading is crucial to your child's overall reading success. Reading should be an interactive process, so please remember to initial your child's log before turning it in on Wednesday.
Each Friday students will receive spelling lists and worksheets. Practice spelling the words correctly and complete the homework worksheets as they are due each Thursday. Spelling Tests will be administered on Fridays.
