It has been a very productive Red Ribbon week. We kicked off with a Red Ribbon Assembly on Monday, and the fun didn’t stop there! Students and staff showed their commitment for being drug free and making healthy choices by participating in wearing red, crazy socks, pajamas, hats, and CCE shirts! Way to go Comets!
Gracious to our 4th grade PTA parents for the delicious Mexican Friday Feast.
Dead Word Funeral: Tombstones of your child’s dead word is due to school by Thursday, October 30th. We look forward to burying overused words in our writing on Friday, October 31st.
CCE Cook-out: Please make plans to attend our CCE Cook-out Friday, October 31st. This event is very similar to our Thanksgiving Luncheon. The cafeteria will be serving Hamburgers or Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. Families are invited and encouraged to attend lunch with their child/children. We will run our regular lunch schedule. RSVP’s were sent out in last week’s Tuesday’s folder. Please indicate if you will need the vegetarian option when submitting your RSVP.
Mentor Poem Assignment: Gearing up for Coffee House Poetry, we introduced the Mentor Poem Assignment to our 4th graders in class on Wednesday. The directions and due dates are on a blue sheet that is in your child’s homework folder. The students choose a book of poetry to read. While reading the book, the students find the perfect mentor poem to memorize and recite. A mentor poem should be a poem that your child connects with and believes to display brilliant qualities of poetry. The mentor poem selection is due next Monday, October 27th.
By Monday, November 3rd, the mentor poem should be typed or handwritten on plain white paper. Make sure to include the poem’s title and author. Also include a significant border that illustrates the poem. Examples will be shared in class. Finally the mentor poem needs to be memorized by Monday, December 1st. The fourth graders will recite their mentor poem during Coffee House Poetry.
Reading Response Logs: With our Poetry unit starting next week, in lieu of reading response logs, your child should be reading poetry and creating poems for his/her Book of Poetry.
Student Council: Congratulations to our two classroom representative, Lucy and Kelvin! We look forward to your contributions to CCE!
Cherished Art: Cherished Artwork needs to be returned to school by next Wednesday, October 29th whether you order or not.
Ear buds: With multiple activity during comet club, we are asking for 4th graders to bring in a pair of ear buds or headphones to school. Thank you!
Denim Drive: Our 4th Grade sponsored Denim Drive was a huge success! A total of 217 pieces of denim were collected. We exceeded the initial goal of 200. Thank you CCE families for your donations!
TAG Testing: The TAG information meeting has been set for November 13th from 6-7 in the library. Parents who are interested in referring their child for testing are encouraged to attend.
The window for referrals opens on Monday November 17th. The paperwork will be available on the RRISD gifted and advanced academic services website on November 17th. The window for referrals closes on December 9th. If you have any questions, PLEASE contact Mrs. Mowrey or Mrs. Cerda.
