BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: Thank you for coming to Back to School Night. It was an excellent turnout with almost 100% of my families in attendance! I hope you left with a good idea of what goes on here each day. It’s a very busy place! Our classroom is buzzing with learning throughout our entire day.
CONFERENCES: My conferences will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week. I have a very tight schedule so please help me keep my conferences on time. A gentle knock on the door would be very appropriate should the conference before you be still taking place at the start of your conference time. It will be our sign to wrap things up. I am looking forward to visiting with you as we chat about your child and set goals for the year ahead. CLICK on the Conference Schedule Link to see your scheduled time. I have also created a Recommended Reading List Link. I hope that you find this link helpful for suggesting books for your child to read.
BOOK BUCKS: Many thanks to those who already donated to my Book Buck Library program. You have been extremely generous and I really appreciate it. I will be placing our Scholastic order this week as I work to stock our Book Buck Library. Remember, your child’s minutes must be totaled for me to award Book Bucks. Thanks for supporting this very successful reading incentive program!
MVP CARDS: Don’t miss the opportunity to tell your child just how wonderful he or she is. When you have had an opportunity to write your student a brief note, please return the card in an envelope to keep it a surprise until his or her week to shine.
TUESDAY FOLDERS: Please know the children sort their papers into student mailboxes so should you find a paper belonging to another student, please send it back and I'll see that it heads out to the rightful owner in the next round of Tuesday folders. Each Tuesday afternoon, please spend some time going over your child's Tuesday folder work with them. It's important that the children see how well they completed their work. The corrections I make are really to benefit your child. If there is a “Redo and Return” paper in the grouping, please spend time going over that work with your child, making corrections, then put a parent signature on it and return it the next day. Sometimes all it takes is a little more practice, mastery is just around the corner.
IXL MATH: IXL Math is a comprehensive math review site with an unlimited number of math practice questions in hundreds of skills - all which are aligned to Texas state standards. The district in conjunction with IXL decided it is in the best interest of the students to have a standard username and password. Usernames are s+student 6-digit ID number, and the password is comets. Your children have logged in at school and are familiar with the process. You must login through the school website. This can be found either under “Teacher Resources” at the top of the CCE website or under “Useful Links” on my page.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION: Keep them coming in and don’t forget about the HEB promotion that is going on through Sept. 29th. We are hoping to earn the Grand Prize Pizza Party.
HOME ACCESS CENTER: We encourage parents to sign up for Home Access Center (HAC). By doing so, you will be able to keep up with your child’s progress. Follow this link:

VOLUNTEERS: If you plan to be a Volunteer, go on a field trip, help in the classroom, or work with students, you MUST complete the volunteer application AND receive approval. If you completed an application last year, you will still need to complete a new one for the 2015-2016 school year. We truly appreciate your tremendous support in volunteering. CCE parents ROCK!
Click here for more information and the application link.
RESPONSIBILITY: The CCE character trait of the month. This is one trait we especially try to foster in our third grade classrooms.

UNITS OF STUDY FOR THE WEEK:
· READING: We will begin reading the classic novel The Hundred Dresses. In the book, a young Polish girl named Wanda Petronski goes to a school in an American town, in Connecticut, where the other children see her as "different" and mock her. While reading, we will incorporate how characters change in fiction.
· WRITING: We will continue with narrative writing and how to write a paragraph.
· SCIENCE: Students will investigate the physical (observable & measurable) properties of matter.
· MATH: Students will use a variety of models and strategies to problem solve with addition and subtraction.
Enjoying your children,
