Congratulations to Elena for being our marvelous MVP of the week. We enjoyed learning more about our special friend when she shared her banner with on Friday.
Friday morning, we had an exciting assembly to kick-off this year’s JUMP ROPE FOR HEART campaign. Proceeds raised will benefit the American Heart Association. Students have information regarding this program in their homework folder!
NEXT Friday, January 26th third graders need to bring a few “everybody” books to read with their K buddies! We will definitely check some from the library on Wednesday, too.
STEAM Night was a huge success and a HUGE Thank you to our 3rd grade volunteers! We thoroughly enjoyed taking a glimpse into the classrooms with all of the projects, demonstrations, and displays. Mad Science also provided an engaging and fun way to learn more about Science! We hope you enjoyed the evening, and we are looking forward to next year's STEAM Night.
Enjoying your children,
Joni Biggers
THIRD GRADE AND CCE CAMPUS NEWS
Welcome to the second semester! At this point students should have fluency with basic multiplication facts and using strategies for problem solving/reading comprehension without reminders. We will be adding an additional item to our existing morning work routine, so being on time and using the time well is essential. The pace and rigor will pick up this semester as well!
LIBRARY NEWS
We are kicking off our spring reading incentive PAWS for Reading! We can’t wait to see how many Schlitterbahn and Six Flags tickets are earned. Information went home in Tuesday folders and more can be found on the library website (www.ccereads.weebly.com) next week. Again, I am encouraging all my third graders to participate in PAWS for Reading. The good thing is that your child can use the same minutes for his/her nightly reading. It is a Win-Win!
When your child completes the logs, please sign and return to me. I will check their name for participation, then send down to the library to get credit for their reading minutes. Thank you so much for your support!
PARENT CLIMATE SURVEY
Please take a few moments to participate in the 2018 Parent Climate Survey today. Each day staff, students and volunteers at Canyon Creek Elementary work hard to ensure academic programs and the campus environment meet the needs of all children.
You are a critical part of our success!
The survey will only be available for a short time, please participate today.

Spanish: https://es.surveymonkey.com/r/2018ParentSpanish
Did you know that your 3rd grader also took the climate survey? This is the primary way that the district gets information from students about what they like about their schools and the things that could be better. The results from both surveys are used as part of the campus improvement planning (CIP) process.
MULTICULTURAL FAIR - SAVE THE DATE!
Save the Date for the 12th annual Canyon Creek Multicultural Fair on Friday, February 23rd!
If you would like to participate please return the blue form that was sent out in Tuesday folders last week. The deadline has been extended to Thursday, January 18th. For more information, please email Supriya at [email protected]
JANUARY CHARACTER TRAIT: Empathy
WEEKLY HOMEWORK:
Planners are completed daily. Please check and initial your child’s planner nightly. These students still require support from home.
*****NEW*****Third Graders were introduced to a new reading log for the 2nd semester. Students are still required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per night and record a response on their reading log. This week, our class is to respond by writing a brief summary about what they have read each night. Logs are DUE every Wednesday. Book Bucks are earned with every 100 minutes read. Students can “purchase” books from our “Book Buck Library” with 10 book bucks.
Nightly reading is crucial to your child's overall reading success. Reading should be an interactive process, so please remember to initial your child's log before turning it in on Wednesday.
Each Friday students will receive spelling lists and worksheets. Practice spelling the words correctly and complete the homework worksheets as they are due each Thursday. Spelling Tests will be administered on Fridays.
